Is it Too Late to Put My Baby up for Adoption?
In an ideal situation, you have your adoption plan set months ahead, and the adoptive family you’ve picked out would be on standby. Unfortunately, life never seems to give us the ideal situation. You want to do what’s best for your baby and yourself, and changing your mind about what that best thing is might change at some point during your pregnancy or maybe even in the delivery room. Adoption Choices of Kansas and Missouri is there for you during the difficult process of choosing adoption at any stage of pregnancy. More time to make a birth plan and select adoptive parents is, of course, the preferred way to go, but, as we all know, life likes to throw curveballs.
Take a deep breath and know that you’re not alone. We understand that you have a lot of questions and concerns, and we have the answers for your consideration. Start with understanding the adoption steps and how to put your baby up for adoption, and we’ll help you go from there.
Is it Too Late to Make a Birth Plan?
Absolutely not. You can make a birth plan as soon as the strip turns pink or when the contractions start. The only difference is the process is sped up the closer you are to giving birth. You still have the option of choosing open or closed adoption, picking out adoptive parents, and meeting them. You may have less time to flip through the prospective families, but you still have options.
Choosing adoption is difficult enough, and the follow through can be just as hard. Making tough decisions and taking the next steps can take a long time. It could take weeks to decide to continue with the pregnancy and months to decide if adoption is a good option for you and your baby. Your due date can creep up on you before you know it, but rest assured it’s not too late to choose adoption!
I’ve Already Given Birth and Brought My Baby Home. I Don’t Want to/Can’t Do the Whole Adoption Process. Do I Have Any Options?
If you find yourself in the position where you’ve given birth, and you can’t keep your baby and don’t believe you can make the choice to go through the adoption process, Adoption Choices of Kansas and Missouri is a designated Baby Safe Haven. If you’ve given birth and don’t know what to do, don’t panic.
If your baby is less than 72 hours (three days) old, you can anonymously meet a counselor and surrender your baby, no questions asked. Your baby will be taken in and placed with adoptive parents as soon as possible. You do still have the option to help pick out the parents, but we also understand that not everyone wants to or can. Everyone’s circumstances are different, and we want to assure you that we will place your baby in the care of a loving family in a safe home.
