ADOPTION PROCESS
SIMPLE STEPS FOR BIRTH PARENTS

1

CONTACT ADOPTION CHOICES OF KANSAS OR MISSOURI

Call or Text 316-391-4904

2

SCHEDULE INITIAL MEETING

We are excited to meet you and understand your unique circumstance. Our Birth Parent Counselor can come to you, can meet you somewhere comfortable, or we can meet on the phone or video. Please provide a proof of pregnancy at this time.

3

CREATE YOUR ADOPTION PLAN

Your Birth Parent Counselor will provide you with all the necessary paperwork to create your adoption plan. Your adoption plan will include making important decisions regarding the adoption as well as a financial budget for your needs. Through the planning it is also important that you find a doctor and begin prenatal care.

4

REVIEWING AND CHOOSING AN ADOPTIVE FAMILY

The matching process begins! Your Birth Parent Counselor will bring you adoptive family profiles to choose from. Once matched, you will begin receiving financial support and a secure place to live (if you need it). Depending on the level of openness, you can meet the adotpive family and maintain communications throughout your pregnancy.

5

YOUR DUE DATE!

You will create a birth hospital plan prior to your delivery date. You will make decisions about who will be at the hospital, holding and naming the baby, as well as your care. Your Birth Parent Counselor will be present to advocate for you at the hospital. The baby will leave the hospital with the adoptive family. You will also give your final consent.

6

POST-PLACEMENT SUPPORT

You and the adoptive family will have agreed to post-placement communication which will vary and at a minimum include pictures and letters via a web-based program. Expenses will continue to be paid for 6 weeks after delivery. Counseling and emotional support will be available to you as needed.

WE HAVE ANSWERS
FAQS

The choice of adoption is a positive alternative to an unplanned pregnancy. Many women who find themselves in a crisis pregnancy situation do not search out all of their options. An adoption plan can be whatever you want it to be.

Yes! You will meet an adoption specialist who will work with you through the adoption process. Our adoption agencies are local in Kansas and Missouri and our licensed staff will meet you in-person.

The decision to choose adoption is not an easy one to make on your own. Although it may be a difficult and painful choice, we will be there to provide support, including counseling if you would like.

Yes, you have the option of approving the parents who will be adopting your baby. Each family makes a picture profile, which is a mini-scrap book that tells you about their lives. The profiles we will present to you are filled with photos of the family, their vacations, their home and lots more. It will also include a “Dear Birth Mother” letter that addresses other frequently asked questions such as their likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc…

All of our prospective adoptive parents go through extensive background checks. Social workers meet them in their homes to interview them. The couples are required to provide a State Bureau of Investigation report and a child abuse clearance report as well as birth certificates, a copy of their marriage license, physician’s reports that include HIV test results, etc… Adoptive families are carefully screened.
